One of the biggest advantages of the dictionary is the fact that all languages target the same content in English, which means that future improvements in the functionality of English content and the amount of content in English will benefit all other languages. TransLegal will continue to expand the English dictionary with new terms and deeper content. For example, starting in 2022, TransLegal will add sample documents to illustrate the use of legal terms. The relevance of the results displayed after a search is one of the cornerstones of a successful search database. TransLegal ensures that the results returned when searching for a legal term are accurate and relevant by manually linking exercises, videos, dictionary entries, contributions and other legal documents in English to the relevant terms. This means that TransLegal does not use algorithms or other automated systems to predict relevance. Instead, TransLegal`s lawyers and linguists manually compared each database entry with the relevant legal terms to ensure the results were highly relevant. The legal languages of the world should follow the lingua franca of the business world: English. A multilingual legal dictionary should serve as a linguistic bridge that ensures accurate communication between speakers of different languages. The dictionary should not only provide translations of foreign language terms into English and vice versa (communicative purpose), but also contain a comparative legal analysis showing the degree of functional equivalence between the foreign legal concept and the Anglo-American legal concept (cognitive objective). The dictionary should contain references to relevant sources of law and linguistic context that uniquely identify the legal systems of the source and target languages (e.g. whether the United States vs.
the United Kingdom or German or Austrian). If the foreign legal term has no functional equivalent in English, this must be clearly indicated and a new term in English (neologism) must be created on the basis of a uniform descriptive system. These neologisms should be marked as such to avoid confusion. A multilingual legal dictionary should use a single basic language for explanation and a single analytical method for comparing critical legal terms and concepts from different countries. The quality of English entries must be verified and guaranteed by a team of experienced lawyers and linguists who have practiced law in various Anglo-American jurisdictions, developed legal English courses with prestigious academic institutions and worked extensively in the legal translation industry, as well as by legal practitioners and academics in these foreign language jurisdictions that these Anglo-Americans Confront concepts and legal concepts in their daily work. Upon receipt of the list of key local legal terms identified by the partner university, TransLegal will compare the key local legal terms with the translated terms created by the partner university at Level 2 and determine which terms are not covered.
