I like the Crimson Trace lasers that replace the back strap of the M&P pictured above, while I don`t like the ones that wrap around the back strap of the Glock (my twisted handle can move the zero and the laser adds mass to the back strap that I don`t like). Forgive me if this issue has been resolved. I have a laser for my SR9 and I wonder if it is legal to wear it. The police told me it was good. And I had police officers tell me that they would demand the laser and the gun and take you to jail. I`ve tried to find it in all the little writings, but you have to be a rocket scientist to understand some of the laws. It seems that the police do not know either. Does anyone know what the TN state law says about this? Dave beat me to publish the only law I know of that deals with lasers. So as long as you don`t target it on those, you shouldn`t know how/why it would be illegal.
As a precaution, not all handgun lasers are created equal and there are major design differences. There are three main ways to put a laser on a handgun: (1) mounted on or in front of the trigger protector like the Streamlight TLR-8 above, (2) replace it or mount it on the rear belt like the Crimson Trace laser seen at the bottom of the Smith and Wesson M&P, or (3) guide bar lasers like LaserMax laser. Restrictions on laser sights vary by jurisdiction. Another consideration is the legality of the laser itself: the output power of military and law enforcement equipment often exceeds that allowed for civilian use. In addition, Ocean City has an airport frequented by planes and helicopters. Every year, Ocean City experiences incidents where a ship, plane or helicopter is illegally attacked with a laser pointer that works in Ocean City and is often purchased from Ocean City. The illegal use of laser pointers carries risks and dangers for those affected by the laser beam, as well as for the citizens of Ocean City. Ocean City has every interest in prohibiting the sale of these devices to prevent their illegal use.4-40 Possession and sale of prohibited laser pointers. green), due to its appeal as a recreational device, coupled with its low manufacturing costs; and CONSIDERING that, in particular as a result of these more powerful lasers, with the resulting increase in their intensity and range and the additional potential danger when directed at objects and people, there has also recently been a dramatic escalation in the number of incidents in which harmful laser beams are directed at people and aircraft in Horry County; and the United States.
